titleOfInvention Paper processing agent and paper processing method
abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving the dimensional stability of paper, particularly when wet, using a treating agent which does not generate formaldehyde. SOLUTION: Expression (1) (In the formula, R 1 represents a hydroxyl group or a hydroxymethyl group, and R 2 may be optionally substituted with a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a hydroxycarbonyl group, or a hydroxyl group, a hydroxycarbonyl group, a halogen atom, or an alkoxy group. A paper treating agent comprising a hydroxycarboxylic acid compound represented by the following formula (which represents a good hydrocarbon group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms) or a salt thereof, and a paper treating method using the same.
