abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte which is excellent in charge transporting ability and is hardly volatilized, thereby providing a photoelectrochemical cell excellent in photoelectric conversion efficiency and durability. SOLUTION: An electrolyte containing a liquid crystalline iodide molten salt having a specific structure and iodine is preferably provided, and a photoelectrochemical cell including this electrolyte in a charge transport layer is provided.
