An object of the present invention is to further reduce the adhesion of kogation to the surface of a heater for applying thermal energy to ink in a print head to discharge ink from the print head. SOLUTION: This is a method for reducing adhesion of kogation on a heater surface of an ink jet printer having a recording head provided with a heater for applying thermal energy to ink to discharge the ink from an orifice, wherein the heater is provided. At least one selected from the group consisting of (a) a colorant, (b) a liquid medium, and (c) aldanic acid and an aldanate, comprising an outermost surface protective layer containing a metal and / or a metal oxide.
