abstract (57) Abstract: For example, a benzyl compound such as p-xylene is reacted with a carboxylic acid such as acetic acid in the presence of oxygen to form a benzyl compound such as p-methylbenzyl acetate or p-xylylene diacetate. Provided are an oxidation reaction catalyst suitably used for industrially producing esters, and a method for efficiently and inexpensively producing benzyl esters. SOLUTION: The oxidation reaction catalyst comprises at least one kind selected from the group consisting of Pd, gold, an oxide having a specific surface area of 50 m 2 / g or more, and optionally Al, Ti and Zr. It is composed of elements. The ratio (supporting amount) of Pd in the catalyst is 0.001 to 10% by weight. Is more preferable.
