abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyphenylene ether having a stable attainable molecular weight, which has been difficult with the prior art. SOLUTION: In the presence of a phenolic compound, a catalyst and a solvent for polymerization, a mixture is first prepared by blending in a gas atmosphere containing 1 to 99% by volume of oxygen, and the mixture is used to contact and react with oxygen. Thus, a polyphenylene ether having a stable attainable molecular weight is produced. |
