titleOfInvention Novolak type phenolic resin
abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high molecular weight novolak type phenol resin which is excellent in handling properties, heat resistance properties, curability, carbonization properties, has a good property balance, and can be suitably used for a wide range of applications. SOLUTION: Unreacted phenols obtained by reacting phenols with a paraformaldehyde and / or polyacetal resin having a purity of 85% or more without using a catalyst have an unreacted phenol content of 0.1%. A novolak-type phenolic resin having a weight-average molecular weight of 500,000 or more when polystyrene is used as a reference substance at 5% by weight or less, preferably having a weight-average molecular weight of 1,000,000 or more; More than 70% of the methylene groups are ortho.
