A photoelectric conversion element using semiconductor fine particles sensitized by a polymethine dye represented by the following formula (I) or (II). Embedded image In the formula, Q and Q ′ represent an atomic group necessary for completing a 5- or 6-membered nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring, and may be condensed or substituted. Z and Z 'each represent an atomic group required to complete a 3- to 9-membered ring, and C, O, N.I. It is composed of atoms selected from S and H. L 1 to L 10 represent a substituted or unsubstituted methine group. n 1 and n 3 each represent an integer from 0 to 4, and n 2 and n 4 represent 0 or 1. R and R 'represent a substituent, and W and W' represent a counter ion when necessary to neutralize the charge.
