abstract (57) [Summary] [Problem] To dimming a gel-like substance which has essentially lost the fluidity of a liquid-crystalline compound originally having a fluidity, particularly a gel-like substance exhibiting a liquid-crystalline property and the above-mentioned gel-like substance exhibiting a liquid-crystalline property To provide a display device as a layer. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal gel obtained by gelling a mixture containing (A) a liquid crystal compound and (B) a gelling agent, and a display device using the same as a light control layer. In the case where the liquid crystal is ferroelectric or antiferroelectric, a display device having high shock properties and easy gradation display is provided.
