abstract (57) [Summary] [PROBLEMS] To prevent interruption of shooting operation due to running out of battery. SOLUTION: At the time of quick shooting, a battery check level is set according to the amount of image data stored in a storage element, and when release is performed before transfer of image data from the storage element to a recording medium is completed, the battery is checked. The voltage detection value is compared with the check level setting value to determine whether the next frame can be photographed. On the other hand, during continuous shooting, the check level of the battery is set based on the set number of continuous shots, the compression ratio of the image data, and the file size of the image data, and the battery voltage detection value is compared with the check level set value to determine the next frame. It is determined whether shooting is possible. Alternatively, the number of continuously shootable images is determined based on the battery voltage detection value, the compression ratio of image data, and the file size of image data, and the number of images shot during continuous shooting is limited to the number of continuously shootable images. This makes it possible to prevent interruption of the photographing operation due to battery exhaustion.
