abstract (57) [Summary] [PROBLEMS] To reduce the cost of a constant velocity universal joint by simplifying the processing steps of joint components. SOLUTION: An outer member 1 having a plurality of guide grooves 1b on an inner peripheral portion, an inner member 2 having a plurality of guide grooves 2b on an outer peripheral portion, and a torque transmitting ball 3 arranged on a ball track. And a retainer for holding the torque transmitting ball 4, wherein the retainer 4 is formed of graphite steel subjected to austempering. Graphite steel, C: 0.45- 0.75%, Si: 0.2 to 1.0%, Mn: 0.2 to 1.0%, S: 0.025% or less, P: 0.02% or less, Al: 0.01 to 0.1%, B: 0.001 to 0. 004%, N: 0.002 to 0.008% as a basic component, with the balance being Fe and unavoidable impurities.
