SOLUTION: The following formula (1): (Wherein, R a , R b , and R c are the same or different and are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, a hydroxyl group optionally protected by a protecting group, a hydroxy group optionally protected by a protecting group; A methyl group, an amino group which may be protected with a protecting group, a carboxyl group or a nitro group which may be protected with a protecting group, among the carbon atoms constituting the adamantane skeleton other than the bridgehead position and the oxo group bonding position The carbon atom may have a substituent) by reacting a 2-adamantanone derivative represented by the formula (1) with oxygen in the presence of an imide compound such as N-hydroxyphthalimide, a vanadium compound and a manganese compound. A 5-hydroxy-2-adamantanone derivative is obtained.
