abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chlorine dioxide-containing gel composition which can stably release chlorine dioxide for a long period of time and which is easy to manufacture and handle, and a packing material thereof. SOLUTION: A chlorine dioxide-containing gel composition obtained by absorbing an aqueous solution of chlorite into a superabsorbent resin is provided. Chlorite is an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt. The superabsorbent resin is a crosslinked product of sodium polyacrylate or a polymer of fumaric acid. Then, a chlorine dioxide-containing gel-like composition 16 is filled in the chlorine dioxide-permeable polymer film 12, and the polymer film 12 at the peripheral portion of the packaging material 15 is adhered to each other. The object 16 is sealed in the packaging material 15 to form a filling.
