(57) [Summary] [Problem] It is possible to provide a closed deck type cylinder block in which the opening area ratio of a water jacket portion on a top deck surface side is optimized, and to manufacture a closed deck type cylinder block having a low opening area ratio. Provided is a method for manufacturing a closed deck type cylinder block having good waste sand properties without requiring a large amount of energy cost and labor despite having a low opening area ratio. SOLUTION: A water jacket 10a surrounding a plurality of cylinders 10d arranged in parallel is formed in a closed deck type cylinder block 10, and a part of an upper end opening of the water jacket is covered with a bridge portion 10c on a top deck.
