abstract (57) [Summary] [Problem] An active matrix type adopting a horizontal electric field method, which has a wide viewing angle range with uniform color tone, can realize a viewing angle comparable to a cathode ray tube, and can improve image quality. To provide a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: A pair of substrates, a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the pair of substrates, a plurality of video signal lines formed on one substrate, and intersecting with the video signal lines formed on one substrate. A plurality of scanning signal lines, a pixel electrode and a counter electrode formed on one substrate, and a plurality of pixels formed in a matrix in an intersection region of the plurality of video signal lines and the plurality of scanning signal lines. Wherein the liquid crystal layer has an initial alignment direction of liquid crystal molecules substantially perpendicular to the scanning signal line, and the pixel electrode and the counter electrode are disposed in a display region of each pixel. Are parallel to the initial alignment direction, and intersect at two or more angles outside the display area of each pixel.
