abstract | (57) [Problem] To provide a method of manufacturing a plastic optical fiber capable of manufacturing a plastic optical fiber having sufficiently low transmission loss. The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a plastic optical fiber, comprising the steps of preparing a core rod, melt-drawing a part of the core rod to form a core, and forming a clad held at a temperature equal to or higher than Tg of the core. The material 18 is extruded by an extrusion method, and the core 12 is coated with the clad material 18 to obtain a plastic optical fiber 20. In this case, when the core 12 is coated with the clad material 18, the temperature of the core 12 is maintained at Tg or higher, and the internal strain of the core 12 is reduced, and the surface is melted to reduce the distortion of the surface. The interface irregularities between the core 12 and the clad 19 in the plastic optical fiber 20 are sufficiently prevented. Furthermore, since the core rod 1 is formed independently, the diameter of the core rod 1 can be set to an arbitrary size. |
