abstract (57) [Summary] [PROBLEMS] To improve the display performance of a plasma display panel, that is, greatly reduce flickering of an image and improve luminous efficiency. SOLUTION: This is a plasma display panel in which a discharge gas is sealed in a gas discharge space sandwiched between a pair of substrates facing each other and a protective film 105 is formed so as to be in contact with the discharge gas. The crystal grain size of the protective film 105 is controlled to 50 nm or less. Further, the pressure of the sealed discharge gas is increased to 600 to 4000 Torr, and the protective film in contact with the gas is made an amorphous film. For the formation of such a protective film, CVD for easily controlling the crystallinity is used. The method is preferred.
