SOLUTION: A shellfish belonging to bivalves is brought into contact with a sample, A method for detecting harmful floating organisms to shellfish belonging to bivalves, which comprises measuring a change in action potential of the muscle of the shellfish. The detection method according to the present invention can detect harmful floating organisms having an extremely low cell number. Therefore, according to the detection method of the present invention, it is possible to detect floating organisms that cause red tide at a very early stage.
