titleOfInvention Compact high-resolution panoramic screen display system
abstract (57) [Summary] (with correction) [PROBLEMS] To provide a compact high-resolution omnidirectional or panoramic screen display device having several cameras and having a common virtual optical center. SOLUTION: The field of view of each camera 52, 54, 56, 58 is arranged so as to form one continuous 360-degree area as a whole. The camera has different reflecting surfaces 42, 4 each of a polyhedron such as a pyramid 4, 46, 48. Each camera will have a virtual optical center located within the pyramid. The cameras are arranged such that their virtual optical centers are displaced relative to each other, the displacement forming a narrow blind area that removes image distortion from the image of the pyramidal reflective surface. By using many cameras, the large field of view is divided into many smaller areas, and each camera covers each smaller area, thus improving the resolution of the image seen by the user.
