abstract |
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for increasing the electrochemical activity of a nickel anode of an alkaline battery. The method precipitates an additive on a seed crystal of nickel hydroxide in an ammonia solution. At least one The seed metallic additive is placed in an aqueous solution to form a slurry having a reduction potential. The additives are selected from the group consisting of aluminum, cadmium, cobalt, indium, iron, manganese and zinc. The reduced potential of the solution is maintained by introducing oxygen at a controlled rate into the slurry containing the additive. At least one of the additives dissolves in the aqueous solution beyond the solution solubility of the slurry, and the additives precipitate in the form of hydroxide on the seed crystals of nickel hydroxide. |
