(57) [Summary] [PROBLEMS] To form an image excellent in robustness such as water resistance and light resistance and excellent in character quality, and to discharge efficiently when applied to ink jet recording. Provided is a pigment ink that can be stably ejected from a recording head regardless of the environment. SOLUTION: This is achieved by a pigment ink containing a self-dispersible carbon black, an aqueous medium, and a silicon compound in which at least one hydrophilic group is bonded to the carbon black surface via another atomic group. |
