[PROBLEMS] To provide a novel non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a high voltage, a high energy density, excellent charge / discharge characteristics, and a long cycle life, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: In a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprising at least a negative electrode, a positive electrode, and a lithium ion conductive nonaqueous electrolyte, a composition formula Li x Si 1- y My O z (where 0 ≦ x , 0 <y <1, 0 <z <2), and a lithium-containing composite oxide of a metal excluding an alkali metal or a similar metal M excluding silicon and silicon Si is used. The potential of the negative electrode active material is low and low, the charge / discharge capacity in a low potential range of 0 to 1 V with respect to metallic lithium is large, the high voltage / energy density is excellent, and the large current charge / discharge characteristics are excellent. A secondary battery with little deterioration due to charge overdischarge and a long cycle life can be obtained. |
