Two-component polyurethane topcoat for golf balls |
abstract |
(57) Abstract: Provided is a two-component polyurethane top coating for use in golf balls containing a polyol compound and a polyisocyanate compound. SOLUTION: The polyol compound includes a polyester polyol having a neopentyl glycol resin. A mixture of silane and aziridine is preferably likewise included in the polyol compound. The polyisocyanate compound includes a mixture of an isocyanate trimer of toluene diisocyanate and a biuret of hexamethylene diisocyanate. The polyol and polyisocyanate compound preferably comprise two solvents that form a predetermined blend selected from the group of ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate, toluene and xylene. The coating can be applied directly to golf ball covers of various chemistries without requiring a primer or basecoat. The top coating improves drying and curing properties and provides excellent adhesion and abrasion resistance. |
