Liquid crystal display device and method of manufacturing the same |
abstract |
(57) Abstract: A high-contrast liquid crystal display device having excellent viewing angle characteristics and having a liquid crystal region in which liquid crystal molecules are axially symmetrically aligned for each picture element region is manufactured by a simple method. SOLUTION: A stripe-shaped convex portion 36a is provided on a lower substrate. The stripe-shaped convex portions 36b are provided on the upper substrate outside the picture element regions, and intersect with each other to form a set lattice wall structure. The liquid crystal molecules 42 have a negative dielectric anisotropy, and when no voltage is applied, the liquid crystal molecules 42 are vertically aligned with respect to the pair of substrates. When a voltage is applied, the liquid crystal molecules 42 are oriented axially symmetrically in each region (picture element region) surrounded by the stripe wall. |
