abstract (57) [Problem] To provide a liquid crystal element capable of lowering the threshold value and a manufacturing method thereof. SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal display element in which a plurality of substrates having a liquid crystal alignment film are opposed to each other with a predetermined gap on the liquid crystal alignment film side, and a liquid crystal is arranged in the gap, a liquid crystal alignment film is formed. By subjecting the SiO X obliquely deposited film to a surface treatment with a higher alcohol, the surface is modified so as to change the interaction with the liquid crystal material, thereby reducing the threshold value of the liquid crystal element.
