abstract (57) [Problem] To provide a small light transmittance, a low surface electric resistance, and a smooth surface even if the amount of carbon black added to a magnetic recording layer is reduced as much as possible. A magnetic particle powder from which a magnetic recording medium can be obtained is obtained. SOLUTION: The particle surface of the acicular magnetic particle powder is coated with an organosilane compound generated from alkoxysilane, and the organosilane compound coating has an average particle diameter of 0.1 μm. A needle-like black composite magnetic particle powder having an average major axis diameter of 0.051 to 0.72 μm to which carbon black fine particle powder of 002 to 0.05 μm is attached, wherein the carbon black fine particle powder is the needle-like magnetic particle powder A needle-shaped black composite magnetic particle powder for a magnetic recording medium, wherein the powder is attached at a ratio of 0.5 to 10 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight.
