PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently concentrating microbial cells such as bacteria, yeasts, viruses and the like by simple means and a cell concentrating reagent therefor. SOLUTION: An anion and a cation are present in an aqueous medium containing microbial cells to generate a poorly water-soluble substance, and the microbial cells are adsorbed to the poorly water-soluble substance. Next, the poorly water-soluble substance is recovered and dissolved to obtain microbial cells, or eluted with a cell eluent to obtain cells. The anion can be an oxoacid ion selected from phosphate ion, silicate ion, carbonate ion, sulfate ion and borate ion, and the cation is selected from magnesium ion, calcium ion, strontium ion and barium ion. Alkaline earth metal ions can be used. |
