abstract | Pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment of hepatitis B virus infection in humans and animals are described which comprise an effective amount of a compound of formula (I) (FORMULA I) (or its pharmaceutically acceptable salts) wherein R1 is H or OH, R2 is H or COOR6 (R6 is H or a lower alkyl), R3 is H or? -D-glucose, R4 is OH; CH2 OH or a 3-phenylpropenoyloxylic group, R5 is H, OH, or -? - D-glucose or O -? - D-glucose- (2 ---? 1) -? - D-glucose, and C7-C8 indicates a single bond, a double bond (?) or? (epoxy bond) in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier Specific examples of the iridide compounds represented by the formula (I) are Eucubine, Catalpol, Geniposide, Rehmannioside, Harpagoside, Harpagide and Genipin. |
