A process for the preparation of a compound of formula (I): (FORMULA I) in which each of the R1 R2, independently of each other, is hydrogen or an organic residue, includes the operations of reacting a compound of formula (II ): (FORMULA II) in which R1 and R2 are as previously defined, with a radical initiator, in the presence of molecular oxygen, typically pure O2 or air. Are the compounds of formula (I) useful intermediates for the production of many useful antibiotics? -Lactams. |
