abstract | A general process has been found for the synthesis of 1,4-cyclohexanedions and corresponding naphthoquinones, compounds of industrial use and intermediates in the organic synthesis, by reaction between succinyldichlorides and phenolic substrates promoted by metal halides such as anhydrous aluminum chloride and zinc chloride. Peculiar characteristics of the process are the good yields and the high selectivity, the possibility of operating in a single reactor and the use of low cost and easily available compounds on the market. |
