abstract The invention relates to a new process for the synthesis of 2-acetyl-resorcinol which includes the bromination of 2-acetyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione in position 4, with classic brominating agents in inert solvents, followed by dehydrobromination by heating in presence of dimethylformamide. The reaction intermediate, 4-bromo-1,3-cyclohexanedium, is claimed as a new product. This procedure avoids the use and development of dangerous gases and limits the amount of dimethylformamide used.
