titleOfInvention PRODUCTS OR MANUFACTURES OBTAINED FROM A COMPOUND DERIVED FROM A POLY-HYDROXYL SILICATE-BASED POLYMER AND CRISOTYLIC ASBESTOS WASTE, AND PROCEDURE FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE SAID PRODUCTS
abstract A shaped structure is formed from the reaction of 5-90 wt. % of non-fibrous calcined residue of chrysotile asbestos derived from tailings having a particle size extending from fibrous to 325 mesh and 90-5 wt. % of a hydroxy-contg. polymer (I) comprising phenol- formaldehyde, resorcinol-formaldehyde, phenol-resorcinol- formaldehyde or epoxy resin. The prod. has a repeating Mg oxide- resin bond (II), where R is the polymer residue. Also claimed is the process of calcining chrysolite asbestos tailings of particle size from 28-325 mesh at 700-900 deg.C, mixing with (I) and moulding at 100-170 deg.C if (I) is other than epoxy resin or at room temp. otherwise. The prod. contains no fibres but have improved strength as well as abrasion resistance and resistance to heat distortion, improved thermal expansion, resistance to outdoor weathering and electrical insulation capacity.
