titleOfInvention PROCEDURE FOR THE TREATMENT OF SURFACES PARTICULARLY WOODEN STRUCTURES AGAINST THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY BIRDS
abstract Birds are repelled from a surface by applying to the surface a cyclohexenone cpd. of formula (I): (where R is Me, Et or Pr).S Pref. (I) is 3,5,5-trimethyl-2- cyclohexen-1-one (Ia). Pref. (I) is applied to the surface in encapsulated form together with an adhesive or coating mateial, such as a latex paint. (I) can be used e.g. to repel woodpeckers from utility poles. Application rate is 0.5-3 oz per sq. ft.; or if (I) is encapsulated 0.1 oz per sq. ft. (I) has a low volatility, so that it will remain in place over long periods of time during which it is effective in its repelling activity.
