abstract The parent patent describes the prepn. of an olefin polymerisation catalyst component comprising beta-TiCl3 solid by (a) reducing TiCl4 using di(lower)alkyl Al chloride; (b) incorporating a hydrocarbyl ether into the prod. and (c) treating the prod. (b) with an electron pair acceptor seleted from TiCl4, Ti alkoxyhalide, Al bromide, GeCl4, SiCl4 and halides of elements of Gp. IVB, IVA and Va. In this addition, a lower alkyl Al dihalide (I) is also used in part (a). (I) improves the efficiency of the polymerisation with reduction in soluble polymer content of the polymer product.
