titleOfInvention NEUROMUSCULAR BLOCKING AGENTS
abstract Tetrahydroisoquinolinium salts of formula (I) are new. In (I) each of B and C is a gp. of formula (II): where m is 2-4 C is para or meta to B. n is 2-4. Each of R1-7 is H or 1-4C alkoxy. Y is 1-4C alkyl. X- is a pharmaceutically acceptable anion. One at least of R1-4 is alkoxy and >=1 of R5-7 is alkoxy). (I) are neuromuscular blockers which relax striated muscle during surgery or tracheal intubation. They combine the short-term effect of depolarising blockers with the reduced side-effects of non-depolarising blockers. A typical cpd. is the dichloride of bis 3- N-methyl-1-(3,4,5-(MeO)3benzyl -6,7-(MeO)2-1,2,3,4-tetrahy- droisoquinolinium propyl m-phenylene-3,3'-dipropionate.
