titleOfInvention COMPOSITION AND PROCEDURE FOR DEKINKING OF PRINTED PAPER PAPER
abstract A de-inking compsn. (I) consists of a fatty acid (A); and ethoxylated and/or propoxylated non-ionic surfactant (B); an anionic surfactant (C); a sodium crboxymethylcellulose (D); and an alkali inorganic salt (E). In (I), (A) is of formula RCO2M (where R is (satd.) hydrocarbon chain(s); and M is Na or K). (B) has the formula RO-(CHY-CH2O)nH (where Y is H or CH3; RO is a hydropholic gp. derived from a cpd. from a gp. of alkyphenols of formula RC6H4OH, prim. satd. fatty alcohols R" CH2OH, sec. statd. fatty alcohols R"CH(OH)R"" and/or fatty acids R'""CO2H; R', R", R'", R"" and R'"" are alkylated chains; and n = 2-40). (C) has the formula R-SO3-M and/or R' - O-SO-M. (where R is a defined length paraffin chains or alkyl-aryl chains; R' is a paraffin chain; and M is Na, K, nH4 or amono, di, or tri- substd. alkyl amine). (E) is a metasilicate; disilicate, carbonate; borate or polyphosphate. (I) is used for de-inking printed waste paper to give a pulp for recycling for use as paper for newspapers, magazines or books. The yield of recovered paper is much increased, and the recovered pulp has improved brightness. Only small amts. of reagent and water and wastes are needed using (I) for de-inking by the wash process. (I) is non-toxic and the surfactants are >=90% biogradable.
