abstract Prepn. of 5-n-propyl thiobenzimidazole carbamic acid methyl ester (I) comprises reacting 4-propylthio-o-phenylene diamine (II) with N,N'-dicarbomethoxy-2-methyl-2-thiopseudourea (III). Pref. equimolar amts. of reactions or a slight excess of urea are used. Reactants are pref. boiled in H2O, CH2Cl2 acetic acid or lower alcohols. Reaction pref. take, 1-12 hrs. Yields is 80-90%. (I) is an antiparasitic, active is a range of intestinal helminths in animals. It is esp. effective vs. Haemonchus, Nematodirus, Dictyocantus and Moniezia. Typical doses are 1-15 mg/kg, esp. 2-8 mg/kg for sheep and cows.
