titleOfInvention PROCEDURE FOR THE OXIDATION OF OLEFINICALLY UNSATURATED COMPOUNDS PARTICULARLY FOR THE PRODUCTION OF OXYRANIC COMPOUNDS AND GLYCOLS AND HALOGEN NEAR HYDROS
abstract Title reactants are contacted to give the vic-halohydrin, which is then opt. reacted with bicarbonate to give the oxirane or glycol; pref. prods. are ethylene oxide propylene oxide and epichlorohydrin. By-prods. are utilised, since hypohalite (together with saleable H2) can be prepd. from the final metal halide prod. by electrolysis, and CO2 from second reaction can be used in first stage. There are no effluent problems, and no corrosive Cl2 or alkali is used.
