titleOfInvention | Microbiological process for the production of vanillin and guaiacol from ferulic acid |
abstract | A process for producing guaiacol, and optionally also vanillin, by conversion of ferulic acid with the help of a microorganism of the order Actionomycetales, comprising the steps of: (a) cultivating in a nutrient broth a microorganism from the family of streptomycetaceae, yielding a cultivated nutrient broth; (b) adding to the cultivated nutrient broth of step (a) ferulic acid as the substrate, yielding a broth having a concentration of 1910 ט" ז באב התשס" ב - July 25, 2002 ferulic acid from about 5 gL-1 to about 40 gL-1; (c) incubating the cultivated nutrient broth of step (b) to form vanillin and guaiacol (d) removing the biomass followed by increasing the pH of the broth of step (c) to L9.0; (e) extracting the guaiacol with an organic water insoluble solvent; and optionally (f) decreasing the pH of the raffinate of step (e) to from about 5 to about 8, and (g) extracting the vanillin with an organic water insoluble solvent, wherein the time of cultivation of step (a) is from about 5 hours to about 40 hours, and the time of incubation of step (c) is from about 5 hours to about 50 hours. |
