A medium susceptible to spoilage enzymes contains a halogen compound selected from alkali metal tetrahaloaurate, a heterocyclic compound containing at least two ring nitrogen atoms and at least one nitrogen-halogen bond, an iodonium compound and a sulphonamide containing at least one nitrogen-halogen bond. The medium may be a an aqueous solution containing soluble cellulose in which the spoilage enzyme is cellulase, for example as in an aqueous paint. the presence of the halogen compound reduces the extent of thinning of the solution. Deterioration due to lipases, proteases or amylase can also be reduced. |
