Method of using bar1 for secreting foreign proteins |
abstract |
A method for producing a foreign protein in a host organism whereby the protein is processed through the secretory pathway of the host. Production and processing is achieved by transforming the host organism with a vector comprising at least the signal peptide coding region of the yeast S. cerevisiae BAR1 gene fused to a foreign structural gene. DNA constructs and transformants are also provided containing a region of the BAR1 gene encoding the signal peptide and a KEX2 processing site, and a foreign structural gene. In particular, proinsulin is expressed and secreted from Schizosaccharomyces pombe and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. |
