Derivatives of 2-hydroxybenzoic acid have the formula (I> wherein R1 represents a hydroxy or C2-5 acyloxy group; R2 represents a radical of the formula (II> in which R4 and R5 each represent a hydrogen atom or together form an aromatic ring fused to the heterocyclic ring and R3 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom, the compounds have a greater analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity than 2-hydroxybenzoic acid without the irritation of the gastric mucosa which has been given by the other derivatives previously known in the art. |
