titleOfInvention | Cast coated paper and its production and compositions for it |
abstract | 1483441 Coating compositions STAR PAPER Ltd 21 Jan 1976 [31 Jan 1975] 4234/75 Heading C3P A coating composition comprises, per 100 parts by wt. solids, at least 60 parts by wt. pigment and up to 40 parts by wt. binder, in which from 40-100% dry wt. of the binder, is a polymer of Tg 0-45‹ C. and Tg-Tf of 5- 25‹ C. and which is in the form of a latex having an average particle size less than 0À5 microns. In the examples the binder comprises various mixtures of polyvinylacetate or a copolymer thereof with butyl acrylate having a Tg and a Tg-Tf within the above ranges, with butadiene/ methyl methacrylate copolymer latexes. Other vinyl acetate polymers which may be used as the binder or part of the binder with the above Tg and Tg-Tf, are copolymers thereof with vinyl chloride, 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate and butyl acrylate, Vensatic (Trade Mark) acid and vinyl chloride, and also polyvinyl propionate, polymethylmethacrylate, and styrene or butadiene/ methyl methacrylate copolymers. Pigments used are clay, polystyrene, satin white, and CaCO 3 . The compositions are coated on to paperboard. |
