abstract | 1486832 Compositions containing prostaglandins IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 July 1975 [5 Aug 1974] 34334/74 Heading A5B [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] Pharmaceutically and veterinary compositions in a form suitable for oral, parenteral, rectal, vaginal administration or for inhalation, contain prostaglandins of the formula I wherein either R' is carboxy hydroxymethyl or (C 1-10 alkoxy) carbonyl, R<SP>4</SP> is OH and R<SP>5</SP> is H 1 or R<SP>1</SP> is carboxy or (C 1-10 alkoxy) carbonyl and R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> together form an oxo radical; R<SP>2</SP> is OH or C 1-4 alkoxy; Y is ethylene or trans-vinylene, either A is ethylene or vinylene and X is C 1-6 alkylidene-oxy wherein the alkylidene is bonded to CHR and the oxygen is bonded to R<SP>3</SP>, or C 1-6 alkylidene, or A is vinylene and X is a direct bond; and R<SP>3</SP> is phenyl or naphthyl optionally substituted by one or two halogen atoms, NO2, OH, CF 3 , phenyl, C 1-5 alkyl, di(C 1-5 alkyl) amino, C 2-5 alkenyl or C 1-5 alkoxy radicals, or for these compounds wherein R' is carboxy the pharmaceutically or veterinary acceptable salts thereof together with pharmaceutically or veterinarily acceptable diluents or carriers. The compounds may be used in combination, or concurrently with uterine stimulants, for example, oxytosin, or gonadotrophins, for example pregnant mare serum gonadotrophin or human chorionic gonadotrophin.
