titleOfInvention Flame retarding fibrous material
abstract 1523489 Fire retardant yarns and fabrics knitted fabrics HOECHST AG 1 Dec 1975 [30 Nov 1974] 49243/75 Headings DIK, D1R and D1W A flame retarding fibrous material comprises a mixture of artificial or regenerated cellulose fibres having incorporated therein during spinning one or more phosphorus nitrile derivatives and fibres of a linear polyester comprising structural units derivable from diacid and diol components, in which 3 to 20 mol % of acid structural units are of the formula in which R is a saturated cyclic or acyclic alkylene radical or an arylene or aralkylene radical and R 1 is an alkyl radical having up to 6 carbon atoms or an alkyl or aralkyl radical, and in which R and R, may contain one or more hetero atoms attached to or located in the carbon atom chain. The cellulose fibres may be viscose or cuprammonium rayon or cellulose 2ยข or 3 acetate and contain an ester or amide formed from phosphonitrilic chloride oligomers, mainly (PNCl 2 ) 3 and the alcohol or amine. Viscous fibres containing 20% meta-phosphinic acid hexapropyl ester is exemplified. The exemplified polyester fibres are of polyethylene terephthalate containing 6.75 mole % of 2 carboxyethyl-methylphosphinic acid. Other diols, diacids and phosphinic acids are specified. The heteroatoms, if any, in R and R, are preferably present as ether, sulphide, sulphoxide or sulphone groups in the chain, or fluoride, chloride, fromide or sulphonate or the chain or aromatic ring. The polyester should contain at least 1 % by weight of phosphorous. The blend should have a wt. ratio of cellulose fibres to polyester fibres of 80:20 to 20:80. A yarn may be formed of blended staple fibres, continuous filaments or be a ply of 2 staple fibre yarns or a staple fibre yarn and continuous filaments. The yarn may be knitted or woven. A 2/2 twill is exemplified. The blend may take the form of a non-woven fabric.n[GB1523489A]
