abstract 1448073 Space-heating radiators RADIANT TUBE SYSTEMS Ltd 6 May 1975 [8 May 1974] 20179/74 Heading F4S A space-heating system comprises a closed loop of ducting, e.g. 22, a burner (e.g. within a duct section 15) discharging its combustion gases directly into the closed loop and a fan 16 for circulating said gases through the loop so as to heat the space primarily by radiant heat emission from the loop, the loop comprising a pair of parallel lengths 10, 11 of the ducting in which the combustion gases flow respectively in opposite directions, said lengths being interconnected by cross headers or ducting lengths 12, 13, and the arrangement being such that radiated beams of heat from the ducting lengths 10, 11 overlap above the ground level of the space. As shown in Fig. 3, each bank of the tubes 22 is flanked by convection-suppressing deflector plates 23, and upward radiation is reduced by a blanket 24 of heat insulating material. In use, a proportion of the circulating combustion gases is exhausted from the system through a bleed duct 21 to compensate for combustion air supplied to the burner, e.g. by a fan 19. Alternatively, Fig. 5, combustion air flow to the burner may be induced by locating the circulating fan 16 and the bleed duct 21, downstream of the burner. In an alternative ducting arrangement described (Fig. 6) the ducting comprises a plurality of tubes or a relatively large duct 30 conveying hot gases from the burner to a return header 32 discharging into two return ducts 33. Also described (Fig. 7) is an arrangement comprising a plurality of the closed loops.
