abstract | 1435228 Disinfection in two stages W HURKA 10 Aug 1973 [24 April 1972] 38003/73 Heading ASE A two stage method for disinfecting human or animal skin or an object to be used in a sterile state, comprises first applying a disinfectant or disinfectant mixture, (disinfectant B), which has a longlasting remanent disinfecting action, and, subsequently and prior to use, a disinfectant or disinfectant mixture, (disinfectant A), which is either volatile or free from active residue, which decomposes into volatile decomposition products, leaves behind a neutral residue, or decomposes on the skin into volatile products compatible with the skin, the application if disinfectant A additionally removing any remanent disinfectant B. Disinfectant A may be an alcohol, an iodophor, diethyl pyrocarbonate, a peroxy compound, propiolactone, sodium or potassium dichromate, glutaraldehyde, a hypochlorite, chlorine dioxide, chloramine-T or iodine; and disinfectant B may be a salt of a quaternary ammonium base, a chlorhexidine salt N-(2-[2dodecylaminoethyl)amino] ethyl) glycine, N-hexadodecylglycine, 3, 5-bis(((2-[(2-dodecylaminoethyl)amino] ethyl)-amino)methyl) salicyclic acid, N-(2[(2- octylaminoethyl) amino] ethyl) glycine, N-(3- dodecylaminopropyl)-#-aminobutyric acid or N-(3-dodecyloxypropyl)-#-aminobutyric acid. Disinfectants A and B may be used as solutions or as impregnated towels (from sealed bags made of aluminium foil).
