Process for the production of citric acid and salts thereof |
abstract |
1418511 Citric acid JOH A BENCKISER GmbH 23 Jan 1973 [17 March 1972] 3323/73 Heading C2C Citric acid is produced by fermentation using a yeast which is capable of growing in a medium having a high fluoroacetate concentration, in an aqueous nutrient medium containing at least one n-paraffin containing from 9 to 20 carbon atoms, and a compound which decouples the phosphorylation of the respiratory chain of the yeast. Suitable decoupling agents are pentachlorophenol, 2,4-dinitrophenol, 4,5,6- 7 - tetrachloro - 2 - (trifluoromethyl)benzimidazole, mesoxalonitrile[p(trifluoromethoxy)- phenol]-hydrazone or dicoumarin. Exemplified yeasts are nutrients of the strains Candida oleophila and candida lipolytica. The citric acid may also be isolated as the alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt.n[GB1418511A] |
