titleOfInvention Substituted benzo (i j) quinolizine-2-carboxylic acids and derivatives thereof
abstract 1417129 Benzo[ij]quinolizine compounds RIKER LABORATORIES Inc 29 Dec 1972 [30 Dec 1971 2 Nov 1972] 60122/72 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula and their C 1-4 alkyl esters and acid halides, hydrazides, amides, morpholides and piperidides, wherein Y is R<SP>1</SP>(=C 1-4 alkyl), R<SP>1</SP>O, halogen, OH, NO 2 , CN, CF 3 , NH 2 , N(R<SP>1</SP>) 2 , R<SP>1</SP>CONH or CF 3 CONH; R is Me, Et or CF 3 ; n is 0-2 or Y n is -O(CH 2 ) 1-2 O- bonded to adjacent ring positions; and m is 0-2, but when R is CF 3 , m is 1. These compounds are prepared by heating a corresponding 1-unsubstituted- 1,2,3,4 - tetrahydroquinoline with and cyclizing the thus-formed 1-(dialkoxycarbonylethenyl) - 1,2,3,4 - tetrahydroquinoline using polyphosphoric acid; the resulting esters may be hydrolysed, and the acids may be converted into the compounds containing other functional groups by standard procedures. Therapeutic compositions having activity against microorganisms comprise compounds of the above formula and may be administered orally, parenterally or topically. Antimicrobial compositions for treating objects by immersion, and for controlling plant infections by spraying or dusting, comprise compounds of the above formula.n[GB1417129A]
