abstract | 1383552 Polysiloxane-polyoxyalkylene block copolymers; polyurethane foams UNION CARBIDE CORP 7 March 1972 [8 March 1971 27 Dec 1971] 10599/72 Headings C3R and C3T Polysiloxane-polyoxyalkylene block copolymers have the formula [(R 2 SiO) x (C n H 2n O) y ] d (I), or [Y(R 2 SiO) a R 2 SiYO(C n H 2n O) y ] d (II), wherein each R is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical free of aliphatic unsaturation and Y is a divalent organic group, n is 2-4, x is at least 7, a is at least 6,y is at least 4 and d is at least 4, the average molecular weight of the siloxane blocks being 500-10,000, of the polyoxyalkylene blocks being 300-10,000, and of the copolymer being at least 65,000 for (I) and 30,000 for (II), and the siloxane blocks constituting 20-50 wt. per cent of the copolymer. In examples 1-8 polymers of type (II) are obtained from allylterminated poly - oxyethylene - oxypropylenes containing 65 or 50% oxypropylene units, of MW 2700-3000, and hydrogen-terminated polydimethylsiloxanes of MW 700-2300; they are of MW 36,000-56,000 and contain 21-46 wt. per cent siloxane blocks. In examples 9-26 polymers of type (I) are obtained from polyoxyethylene-oxypropylene glycols containing 0%, 35%, 50%, 75% or 100% oxypropylene units, of MW 2670-3140, and dimethylaminoterminated polydimethylsiloxanes of MW 1140- 1910; they are of MW 5300 to 250,000 and contain 30À4-42% siloxane blocks. In examples 30-34 the block copolymers are used as froth stabilizers in froths obtained by whipping air into a mixture of acrylonitrile-grafted oxypropylated glycerol, oxypropylated glycerol, a polycaprolactone diol and toluene diisocyanate, containing small amounts of Ni acetylacetonate and N,N,N1,N1-tetramethyl-1,3-diaminobutane, and, in Ex. 34, CaCO 3 filler.
