abstract | 1408036 Hair shampoos TREUHANDVEREINIGUNG AG 13 Sept 1972 [13 Sept 1971 29 Nov 1971 29 March 1972] 42569/72 Heading C5D [Also in Division A5] A composition of pH 4À0 to 6À7 for treating the hair and scalp by topical administration for maintaining and enhancing hair growth comprises (A) at least 50% by wt. of a polyoxyalkylene derivative of a C 13+ (e.g. C 13 to C 19 ) fatty acid ester of a polyalcohol having an HLB value of 12 to 17 and (B) a weak acid having a dissociation constant of from 6À3 x 10<SP>-6</SP> to 1À3 x 10<SP>-5</SP> at 25‹ C. in association with a cosmetically acceptable carrier. (A) may be polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate, polyoxyethylene 1,4-sorbitan tristearate, polyoxyethyllene - 1,3,4,6 - dianhydrosorbitan monostearate, polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate or monooleate, or polyoxyethylene castor oil fatty acid glycerin ester. (B) may be lactic acid, citric acid, nicotinic acid, p-aminobenzoic acid or tartaric acid. The pH of the composition is preferably 5À0 to 5À45 optional ingredients are (C) a compound supplying energy to the cells of the scalp area under treatment, e.g. glucose, fructose, pyruvate or adenosine mono-, di- or tri-phosphate; (D) a metal salt essential to the metabolism of living animal cells, e.g. calcium magnesium chloride, magnesium lactate, zinc oleate and magnesium glycerine phosphate; (E) amino acids, e.g. arginine, histidine, tryptophane and cysteine; (F) a substance capable of reducing the viscosity of intercellular fluids, e.g. hyaluronidase (enzyme) and a mucopolysaccharide; (G) a solvent, e.g. an aliphatic alcohol such as ethanol, dimethyl sulphoxide and tetramethylsulphone; (H) a substance promoting formation of epithelium, e.g. urea, allantoin or guanidine hydrochloride; (I) a spreading agent, e.g. a C 1 -C 6 alkyl nicotinate; (J) antiandrogenic hormones, e.g. cyproterone acetate; (K) a substance influencing the formation of pigments, e.g. p-aminobenzoic acid and tyrosine. The compositions are in the form of solutions, emulsion or suspensions. They are effective against alopecia and other hair and scalp disorders. They may be used for cleaning greasy hair.n[GB1408036A] |
